Today on The Mother Hub Meets we're getting to know one of our all-time favourite Insta crushes, Style Mum (aka Pascale Banks)! We've been huge fans of her stunning Instagram account for a long while now; if you don't follow her already, go take a look at her beautiful feed @style_mum, which is brimming with effortless style and tonnes of fashion inspiration.
Pascale studied at the London College of Fashion before starting her blog, which she manages alongside a busy job in the City (as well as being a mum of twin boys). Read on to find out how she does it all...!
Tell us a little bit about what you do and your career journey.
I started the @style_mum Instagram account first as a hobby and outlet for my styling passion. I studied at the London College of Fashion but after leaving, I fell into a City job due to financial reasons and have now been at the same firm for 15 years. The blog came a little later and it started to organically grow into what it is today.
You run your fashion and beauty blog "Style-Mum" alongside your job in the city. What advice would you give someone trying to grow a blog/vlog while still in their "day-job"?
I wouldn't be in this industry if it wasn't for my husband's support. He pushes me, he's hands on with the kids and lifts me when I want to throw in the towel! I know I'm lucky to have that kind of support but a network of mates or grandparents can be just as important.
Have there ever been moments where you've struggled to keep motivated and/or inspired? What keeps you going?
At the beginning it was more difficult to keep momentum and stay on track. As much as you know it's not the way to think, you always compare yourself to others who are further along the journey. I have learnt to not do that and to stay in my own lane. Also numbers are not everything; don't let them get you down, follow accounts that inspire you and keep your passion going.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
There have been quite a few if I'm honest but most recently travelling to Paris with Wallis was such a fun experience, and also speaking at the London Fashion Week Festival for the British Fashion Council. These are things I would never have imagined happening a couple of years ago!
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?
I have kind of touched on it already, it is to not compare yourself to others and don't let it get you down. We are all on our own journeys and have different goals to reach. Be proud of yourself when you tick them off.
What is your favourite quote?
I sadly lost a good friend of mine this year and her favourite quote was 'carpe diem', to sieze the day and live in the present.
We really appreciate your support for the #IamAnEssexGirl campaign. Having grown up in Essex yourself, why do you think it's so important to shake off the negative stereotype?
It's sad to think this sterotype is still around. I'm an Essex girl and proud! We are smart go getters and people that think otherwise are simply moronic! Well done on such a fabulous campaign girls!
We couldn't finish the interview without asking; if you had to pick one all time favourite item of clothing and one beauty product what would they be and why?
This is a tricky one!! Especially if you look at the amount of beauty products I own.
Clothing would have to be a fabulous coat; it's cold most of the year in the UK and you can kind of wear anything underneath and no-one would ever know!
Skincare - I am currently loving Bobbi Brown's skin nourish mask, if you haven't tried it, you must! It gives you baby soft skin.
Makeup - I can't leave the house without some foundation on. My current fave is Bareminerals liquid foundation.
