2017 has officially begun! The routine has resumed, the kids are back at school and it's back to work for the grown ups! Whether you work in a corporate office, a buzzy hot desk, from your kitchen table or are a mum on the run, the New Year can be a great excuse to revamp your wardrobe. Any excuse for a bit of shopping, eh?! So, take your pick from our capsule edit where you'll find everything you’ll need for a fuss-free, back-to-business look that requires minimum effort but has maximum impact.
If your Monday to Friday involves the high-flying world of corporate meetings and business lunches, you’re going to need to dress the part. Wearing a suit can make you feel like super woman in the boardroom, so channel your inner Tess McGill and opt for smart cuts and sharp tailoring. A simple colour palette of dove grey, cool navy and chic black will take the stress out of early morning dressing and keep you looking sleek, sophisticated and ready for action. Just add heels and a statement necklace to take your look from 9 to wine.
COOL RUN MUM
If you’re 9 to 5 is more like a 'when my eyes open to when my eyes close' kind of scenario, then you’re going to need a ‘uniform’ that is quick and easy, put together and, dare I say it, practical. Denim will obviously be your go-to item. Statement flats or a pair of chic trainers will be a wardrobe staple, and perfect for dashing around town with your to-do list. A cosy cashmere scarf will be your best friend on those frosty school runs. A bright coat can really sing and lift your outfit and your mood, and a red lip can add instant glam and make you look like you’ve made an effort (even if you've just slapped it on the car park!).
Working in a creative environment such as advertising, fashion or PR, you can get away with wearing more adventurous or glam items to the office, which will show off your flair. Statement accessories work well to elevate, so opt for chunky necklaces and higher heels; it’s all in the detail don’t forget. Individual stand-out pieces or a clash of prints and textures will keep you looking on trend and ready for cocktails with clients. Big shades optional.
DESK AND THE CITY
Having a smart/casual dress code can sometimes be tricky; jeans seem too casual whilst a suit is too formal. Bright colours, quirky prints and little details add something extra and will have your colleagues asking "where’s that from?”. A classic trench works well with any outfit and, teamed with a flash of leopard print or a cool pinstripe, will really complete the look.
